Penn Summer Abroad Fellowship & Scholarship Opportunities

Penn undergraduates who currently receive financial aid are eligible to apply for the William A. Levi Travel Fellowship to help fund their participation in a Penn Summer Abroad program. Recipients are selected based on their academic standing, financial need, and demonstrated motivation for participating in a Penn Summer Abroad program.

• Awards cover all or part of the cost of the program fee.
• Recipients may be asked to provide photos or blog entries during or after their program for marketing purposes.
• Fellowship recipients who withdraw from the program forfeit the award. If the program is canceled, the student may not apply the award to any other coursework or program.

Eligibility

The William A. Levi Travel Fellowship is available to Penn undergraduates who:

• Receive need-based financial aid during the designated academic year
• Have been admitted, or are in the process of applying to a current Penn Summer Abroad program
  • Admission to a Penn Summer Abroad program is required before the fellowship awards are announced; however, students may apply for the William A. Levi Travel Fellowship before receiving their admission decision

Penn undergraduates who currently receive financial aid are eligible to apply for the Katherine and Josh Lauder Summer Abroad Fellowship for Penn-in-the-Alps to help fund their participation in the Penn-in-the-Alps program. Recipients are selected based on their academic standing, financial need, and demonstrated motivation for participating in the program.

The award will provide $5,000 toward program costs including tuition, program fee, airfare, and other program-related expenses. Fellowship recipients who withdraw from the program forfeit the award. If the program is canceled, students may not apply this award to any other coursework or program.

Eligibility

The Katherine and Josh Lauder Summer Abroad Fellowship for Penn-in-the-Alps is available to Penn undergraduates who:

• Receive need-based financial aid during the designated academic year
• Have been admitted, or are in the process of applying to the Penn-in-the-Alps program; Admission to Penn-in-the-Alps is required before awards are announced; however, students may apply before receiving their admission decision

The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program offers grants for undergraduate students of limited financial means to pursue academic studies abroad. Such international study is intended to prepare US students better to assume significant roles in an increasingly global economy and interdependent world.

Eligibility

The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program is open to undergraduates who are:

• Citizens of the US
• In good standing at an accredited institution of higher education in the US (including two-year and four-year institutions)
• Recipients of a Federal Pell Grant or can provide proof that they will be receiving a Pell Grant during the term of their study abroad program or internship
• In the process of applying to, or accepted* for, a study abroad or internship program that is:
  • At least two weeks for community college students and three weeks for students from four-year institutions
  • In a single country
  • Eligible for credit from the student’s home institution
• Proposing to study in a country not currently under a Travel Warning issued by the US Department of State or otherwise determined ineligible for program participation

*Proof of program acceptance is required prior to award disbursement

The mission of the Fund for Education Abroad (FEA) is to provide scholarships and ongoing support to students who are underrepresented among the US study abroad population. FEA makes life-changing, international experiences accessible to all by supporting minority, community college, and first-generation college students before, during, and after they participate in education abroad programs.

Eligibility requirements

• US citizen or permanent resident
• Currently enrolled as an undergraduate at a college or university in the US
• Study abroad program must be eligible for credit at the student’s home institution
• Study abroad program must be at least 4 weeks (28 days) in country/countries
  • London, Madrid, Florence, and Tours meet the residency length requirements

Awards range from $1,250 to $10,000 based on financial need and time abroad.
